Anime - Large Edition Work

Some of the pieces I have done are in larger editions. Doing larger editions enables the costs to be spread out over the whole edition thus rendering them more affordable than the smaller edition pieces and the bronzes. At present most of the molds of these pieces were destroyed in a fire so there are a only a few pieces remaining.

They are in various editions from 25 to 150 and tend to be more decorative pieces and more concerned with form, movement and lines. I consider them similar to drawings and use tools that make marks in a similar way I would use charcoal or make an etching, scratching marks to show depth. Like an etching plate the finished piece is blackened and then rubbed back leaving the more scratched or textured areas darker.

Sometimes the clay feels like silky oil paint to work with and the knife I use seems like a pallet knife these marks leave a smoother therefore lighter tone, while other marks are made with a saw and leave a dense black tone.

Rather like a life drawing, some pieces appear sketchier than others but all explore the form, flesh, lines and rhythms created by the naked human form, that for generations artists seem to have had a fascination with.
